Even Scots who have never left Scotland need a song of longing to return to it! This is mine. As a Dundee lad the Angus countryside was where I often went as a kid to get out of the city. So, this song is about my bit of countryside.
Again Jim Reid’s tune fits Violet Jacob’s poem perfectly.
There is just something about this song for stirring up memories of Scotland: I don’t think I’ve ever sung it here in New Zealand without a Scot coming up afterwards to say it brought tears to their eyes (and I choose to believe that it’s the song and not my singing).
